It's been almost twenty years since I published A History of Group Study and Psychodynamic Organizations. A while back, I was surprised to learn that the book had gone out of print. I discovered this fact when I was teaching a group dynamics class to undergraduate college students. They informed me that a used copy was selling for about $900 online. I knew I had to do something!
Below is a pdf of the original book from my personal files. Aside from light editing, it is as original, although pagination will not coincide exactly with the published version.
I’ve also included photographs and a video for your enjoyment.

I visited Isabel Menzies Lyth several times in her home in Oxford before she passed away. This documentary is an edited compilation of some of our conversations.

This book began in 1998 as my doctoral dissertation in leadership at the University of San Diego. After I graduated in 2002, I took up a Visiting Social Scientist post for a year at the Tavistock Institute in London where I met Sally Halper, the Tavi librarian. Sally put me in touch with Trevor Brown, editor at Free Association Books (FAB). Trevor agreed to publish this revised version which was released in 2004.
